Project summary
The project “Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities DARIAH-PL” was included in the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructure in 2020. The main and direct objective of the project is to develop a national smart digital research infrastructure for the humanities and arts by creating a national ecosystem for interdisciplinary research on archaeological materials and cultural heritage. It follows the earlier DARIAH.Lab project (2021–2023).
The infrastructure, which is the main result of the project, will be available for use in both national and international research projects, as well as in projects carried out in cooperation with commercial partners. The results of the project, such as research object processing services, research data linking, and tools for implementing advanced research scenarios, will contribute to strengthening Polish digital humanities and art sciences.
The infrastructure will support the removal of barriers to access to connected digital resources and tools, including for people with disabilities, and will have a positive impact on the implementation of equal opportunities policies.
The project was funded in the first call of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and received the highest score among the evaluated proposals. It was completed on 30 June 2026.
Infrastructure
The planned infrastructure of the national ecosystem for interdisciplinary research on archaeological materials and cultural heritage consists of:
- the interdisciplinary research platform infrastructure, enabling the implementation of the Research Agenda, with particular focus on data harmonisation and digital research tools;
- the archaeological module infrastructure, enabling advanced documentation of archaeological data and providing the interdisciplinary research platform with mechanisms for carrying out research scenarios in archaeology;
- the training module infrastructure, containing training materials on research scenarios that can be carried out on the interdisciplinary research platform;
- the instrumentation harmonisation infrastructure, a set of digital tools adapted to work within the interdisciplinary research platform or the archaeological module, built either as components integrating existing solutions with the infrastructure or as new tools.
Key research areas: regional studies, neurohumanities, interdisciplinary history, and multi-faceted research on the human past.
